MINGUS THE GREAT
APRIL 8, 1994-NOVEMBER 18, 2008
Sweet Mingus,
Don’t cry for me
RUN, SWIM, CHASE RABBITS, HAUL LOGS TO SHORE, BARK WITH THE VITALITY OF YOUR YOUTH,
and eat your peas.
Don’t cry for me
I know you won’t forget us. Who could?
I’m going to believe in something beyond your physical beauty.
I’m going to believe that your sweetness remains here on Earth.
I’m going to believe in something….
I’m going to believe in something sweet and not as salty as this deluge I’m leaking, so far only from my eyes and nose, but I think my mouth is going to join in soon.
By the way, you did pee again after you were dead.
How cool is that?
You didn’t eat the cookie I tried to give you for peeing though. I tried the kangaroo ones, then the buffalo liver….
I’m glad you ate some of that pot roast last night and didn’t save it for today or you would have missed it. Would you like to be cremated with the pot roast? I could drive back to the clinic and have it packaged up with you.
I’m going to throw up now and then I’ll get back to crying, and then maybe I’ll finally fall asleep. It’s been quite a few days since I slept, but I liked listening to you sleeping. I’ll miss listening to you sleeping I can tell.
Well, good-bye for now. We’ll commune again later in the day okay?
Your love,
Christine
p.s. You didn’t take the elevator. I carried you.

I'm so sorry for your loss Christine. Mingus was more than just a special dog...he was a true and devoted companion to his loving mistress. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. I know his memory will live on in all our hearts.

Oh, Christine....
I just spoke to you and am so terribly sad for you. He was the light of your life and shone into our lives too. What a great pleasure to have known that wonderful soul.
I hope that you can rest today as that will help you to cope. Please know that we love you and are here whenever you want to come by and give Ollie a big squeeze and we can give you one (well, several) as well!
Seriously, if you want to have dinner company we are here, and we can rent a silly movie so you don't have to get trapped in your head.
I love you, CS,

Of course Mingus the great is still around and checking up on you.

Christine: My heart goes out to you and MIngus in his new life.
May God Bless you both.

Gus would like to know if there is any potroast left? And Ben says he is willing to dress up as ming and come for snuggles but I think he might have ulterior motives re: leftover kangaroo. Lol Kate
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss.
I hear there are unlimited doggy treats in doggy heaven (and we all know that where he is right now)
Talk about justice, all you get is a bunch of kleenex!
I'll call you later
Love,
Marc
P.S. Deborah send her condolences
Dear Friend of All Puppies but Especially MINGUS THE GREAT,
The sound of breaking hearts, and soft distant barks - he will remain with you until you too go on that long walk.
Love & Many Hugs and Sloppy Kisses
Oh Punkin , sooo sorry to hear of your sweet beloveds transformation . I hope it was swift and painless ....just as we hope it is that way for us . You were the perfect mom and friend to him . You did good all the way . Such love that was given is exceptional . He is happy and I'm sure was always grateful for that love , patience and kindness . I hope the grieve will not be too painful but take heart that it will pass ... in time . I'm sure you are grateful for the whole experience . Such a gift , huh ?
Big Hugs and Much Love ................... D
Dear Mingus,
I know that doggie heaven is a fabulous place to be with no arthritis and no parents telling you when you can walk and when you have to stay home.
My name is Fluffy and I’ve been in doggie heaven for 24 years (oh, you don’t age here either), my person, Teresa, still misses me after all this time which I think is sweet but I’m glad she’s taking the best of what she got from me and using it to better her life on earth till I see her again.
Doggie and human heaven combine of course and you don’t have to believe in a doggie god or a human god to get here.
Now that you are here with us I’ll show you around. I’m forwarding this email to your person Christine so she knows you will be in good hands.
Love,
Fluffy Pettit
Dearest Christine:
so sorry.

Oh, Christine, I just got back from London to find your message about Mingie. Saw your beautiful poem on the website. My salty tears are watering the keyboard. So sad your best friend is not with you in body - he'll always, always be with you, though.
Big hugs to you. Glad you are swimming and getting your hair done. It makes a difference - not huge, but it helps.
Will see you soon in December.
Lots of love

Good morning, love. Chris told me last night about Mingus.... I am so sorry, ...
Hi Christine,
I received your sad note about dear Mingus. It sounds as though he went as pleasantly as possible, though I'm sure that is small consolation to you. I also note from your blog that you have some heart felt support which must be somewhat helpful. Life, and death, are strange. As we all know, thousands of novels, poems, and religions have tried to cope with the significance of our existence and demise, and I don't think a satisfactory explanation has yet to appear. Certainly not for me. Tom

big hugs and kisses!
Sooo sorry...this hasn't been a good couple of weeks...first Anne's Koji, then Jan and Ted's Coco and now Mingus. My thoughts are with you. It never gets any easier. There will be a BIG gathering at the Rainbow bridge.

So sorry to hear about Mingus. It's like losing your best friend. a nice Cab should help ease the pain!
Dear Christine
We are sorry to hear that Mingus has passed away. He was a wonderful dog, a very fine fellow and
such a good companion for you. You must miss him very, very much. We know how hard it is to lose a
beloved pet. As you probably know after the death of Cleo and Thomas we, but especially Louis has never
wanted to have another pet because of the pain of losing those two special cats.
Love and a Big Hug
Tom and Louis
Dear Christine,
My heart is with you. I know how much love you gave and received in your relationship. Be well.

There are no words that make it better. You loved him too well!!!!I didn't know Mingus but from all the outpouring of affection, it's obvious that he was very much loved and it's obvious that you too are very much loved. I just don't understand why dogs don't live longer (or forever), it's seems perverse. I don't know what the lesson is ....If you figure it out, I'd like to know...
Many, many, many heartfelt condolences
Your old friend Gerry from Jeanne Mance.
